About Me

“Education is not the filling of a bucket, but the lighting of a fire.”
-W.B. Yeats

Latina. Feminist. Scholar. Librarian.

I believe in the power of education to create a brighter employment future for a diverse group of people. With a passion to promote equitable access to educational opportunities, I hope to put my expertise to work with a team of people with a similar vision.

I have worked in two public library systems, in branches that serve two very different groups of underserved populations. The relationships I formed there still remain strong, even though I left my job in 2014, thanks to social media. I loved teaching kids to read, providing them with materials that engaged them, and having a compassionate heart, I truly miss serving those communities.

I have worked hard for my success, embracing my own inner-nerd, crystalizing that awkwardness into inner confidence. I earned my undergraduate degree at The University of New Mexico. With my degree in Art History and certificate in Museum Studies, I came to The University of Texas at Austin, to study at The School of Information. I am finally adding credentials to my eighteen years of library experience! Master of Science in Information Studies, 2020. MSIS. Damn, it feels good!

Now I want to be part of a service providing collaborative team again, making connections between faculty, staff and students, guiding them to resources, as well as providing innovative programming that will engage the whole community by infusing opportunities for fun, creativity, and joy. We spend so much time in our work places, it is so important to enjoy exercising our curiosity as much as possible. Teaching literacy instruction and helping people find the most informative resources and the best answers is my ultimate goal.

Let’s make something together.
